What Is Remote Online Notarization?

Remote Online Notarization (RON) allows you to meet with a commissioned Virginia Electronic Notary Public through a secure audio-video platform. During your appointment, your identity will be verified, your documents will be reviewed, and your notarization will be completed electronically in accordance with applicable Virginia law.

Clients located throughout the United States may be eligible for Remote Online Notarization, subject to the requirements of Virginia law and acceptance by the receiving organization.

Before You Schedule

To ensure a successful appointment, please confirm that you have the following:

✔ A Valid Government-Issued Photo Identification

Each signer must present a current, valid, and unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as:

  • Driver’s License
  • State Identification Card
  • U.S. Passport or Passport Card
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Other government-issued identification accepted under applicable law

The name on your identification should substantially match the name appearing on your documents.

✔ A Compatible Device

You will need:

  • A desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone
  • A working camera
  • A working microphone
  • Speakers or headphones

✔ Reliable Internet Access

A stable internet connection is essential to complete the secure audio-video session without interruption.

✔ Your Documents Ready

Please have your documents prepared before your appointment begins.

Unless specifically instructed by the document preparer or receiving organization, do not sign your documents before meeting with the notary.

Important Information

To protect both you and the integrity of the notarization process, please note the following:

  • Every signer must personally appear during the remote session.
  • Identity verification is required before any notarization can be performed.
  • The notary must determine that each signer is acting voluntarily and appears aware of the transaction.
  • The appointment may be rescheduled if technical issues prevent the notarization from being completed safely or securely.

Choosing the Correct Notarial Certificate

If your document requires a notarial certificate, you are responsible for ensuring the correct certificate is attached before your appointment.

While your Virginia Notary Public can provide a selection of commonly used Virginia notarial certificates and explain the general purpose of each type of notarial act, the notary cannot determine which certificate is appropriate for your document or provide legal advice.

Appointment Fees

Applicable notary signing fees will be disclosed before your appointment. For all personal and/or individual notary services, there is NO CHARGE!

When booking through Blue Notary there is a charge ranging from $10 to $25 per signer [not per page] and depending upon the requirements for the platform.

Certain promotions or special offers may apply to qualifying appointments.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, we kindly request as much advance notice as possible. This helps us better serve all of our clients and maintain appointment availability.
